We enjoy all types of music, but especially the music of Andre Rieu. We found the music on this DVD to be really excellent. Unfortunately, the DVD was faulty and so was returned, We re-ordered and received a new copy , which is perfect. We will be ordering more music as your service is very good.

This DVD is Region free so if your TV and player is NTSC/0 compatible you will be able to enjoy this concert. Andre Rieu and his world famous Johann Strauss Orchestra perform before a live stadium audience in Vienna on New Year's Eve. Andre and his musicians really capture the party atmosphere with this collection of all time favorites. There are no vocal guests but there is enough wonderful music and smile inducing fun to delight fans of Andre and his Orchestra. Four stars because the sound quality on my copy at least is not as good as other DENON DVDs. You need a TV with good speakers to enjoy it, it was rather sharp through those of my smaller TV.

This is not what you think it is!, 2010-06-23
Looking at the cover and the title is misleading, you would think this is a Andre Rieu 3 cd box ....... but you would be wrong. This selection features Andre Rieu ... but only 9 tracks on this 3 cd set are played by him and his orchestra, the rest is other artists doing albeit justice to the music of the Strauss Dynasty. This is the sort of cd which you would probably leave in the shop if you were in a "good old music shop" after you had carefully read the cover while listening on headphones. I bought it for my parents as a present, they were pleased but a little bit disappointed at the same time. I won't say more ... it's up to you, you have been warned!

This is an ideal introduction to some great music for both classical first-time toe-dippers, and people who have some knowledge of classical music but want to get more ideas about other composers they might like. The artists are household names, and can be heard singing or playing music with which they have become particularly associated: Luciano Pavarotti sings "Nessun Dorma", for example, and Lesley Garrett sings in the duet from Lakmé (music used in a British Airways advert). The music crosses all styles and genres, from the full operatic experience of the Act 1 duet from La Bohéme, through the ethereal sounds of New College Choir in John Tavener's Song for Athene (heard at the funeral of Princess Diana) to the cool, ironic score for the film The Piano by Michael Nyman, so there really is something for everyone. There are even some unexpected unfamiliar treats: baroque soprano Emma Kirkby sings a little-known aria by Vivaldi, for example. And at 76 and 78 minutes of music on each disc, it all feels very generous. --Warwick Thompson
