Average rating of 5/5 BACKSTREE'S BACK?? THEY WER NEVER GONE!!, 2008-05-20

5.0 out of 5 stars Making history, 2 Jun 2005

Ok lets cut to the chase. This album is AWESOME. For people that are already BSB fans: This album shows a side of the boys that has yet to be uncovered until now. They are all much more mature and you can hear that in the music. Not only is everything much more relaxed (nick doesn't sound like he's on the verge of popping neck veins) but the songs are much more grown up and on a level that even grown ups can apprecite (no more teeny boppin' to *lets have a party*). They haven't ditched their trade mark backstreet style, it's still there but is perfectly accompanied by an alternative feel (bsb meets lifehouse/matchbox twenty).

For new listeners: It's a mix of pop/rock ballads (think savage garden) and funky upbeat, alternative tracks (i.e. Rooster/Incubus) with a dash of R&B and a bit of a jazz influence to make it a *different* album.

My opinion? I was quite dissapointed when they went away and came back with Black & Blue because it was SO different that it was hard to get accustomed to... in fact I only really started liking it about a year ago. But this album is something you can't NOT like. If you're looking for pure pop i.e. As long as you love me/backstreet's back, then you might be a bit dissapointed, they've gone in a new direction. But if you're open to it then you'll love it.

Songs to look out for:

Rockn': My beautiful woman, Just want you to know, Poster Girl

Swooners: Lose it all, Never Gone, Crawling back to you, Incomplete

The rest are very good too but those are my favourites.

NB: Don't listen to anyone if they say it's rubbish because I almost broke down in tears when my boyfriend told me he had downloaded it and that it was really awful and then I listened to it myself and was gob smacked at how good it was.

ENJOY!

Average rating of 5/5 Possibly their best album since 'Millenium', 2010-01-13
As a long standing listener to the BSB (14+ years), I am obviously interested and excited when they release something new. Needless to say that I was not disappointed when I first put this album on back in October, and it has not left my stereo since! Even my 2 1/2 year old daughter loves this album - and she is a very picky lady! :o)

Long standing fans won't be disappointed, with classic BSB tracks such as the punchy "Straight Through My Heart" and the upbeat "Bigger", right through to the beautiful "This Is Us" and the ballads "Shattered" and "Undone". New/recent fans should also be engaged from the word go, as there is something on this album for everyone. In my opinion (and it is just my opinion) this is them at their best since the 1999 album 'Millenium' when, arguably, the BSB were at the height of their fame.

There is a sense of maturity throughout the album, which is understandable given how long these chaps have been making music and the fact that they are no longer 'boys' but men, some of which have families of their own now. That doesn't mean that this album is 'boring' though as there is still more than a hint of BSB cheekiness and fun thrown in. Quite simply, it's very good music, and given the length of time that these guys have been going as a 'boy band', they could teach a lesson or two to all the current boy bands out there - this is how it's done. Enjoy!

Average rating of 5/5 Definitely one of Backstreet's Best Songs, 2001-10-02
The Backstreet Boys are back with a brilliant new single 'Drowning'. It's a very cool track that is more in the mid-tempo range as opposed to being a ballad. 'Drowning' is comparable to 'I Want It That Way' or 'As Long As You Love Me' (it's definitely as good as them), but with Backstreet's new, matureer edge. It also has a kind of Lonestar vibe to it, adding to its appeal.
However, don't make the mistake of thinking that this sounds all country, because this is a slice of pure pop at its finest.
Like many of the Backstreet Boys best hits, its a love song filled with harmonies, great lyrics and of course their great voices, my favourite lines being 'I can't imagine life without your love, Even forever don't seem like long enough'. Yes, its kind of sappy, but not in an overboard way; its just a beautiful song filled with emotion.
I basically think that it's a song to give you goosebumps and a feel-good factor, because it is a fantastic BSB track (as usual). Also, having been listening to music for a long time now, it's great to know that not all groups get worse as they continue to release music;the BSBs just seem to get bettter and better with each single and album. A brilliant pop song that deserves to give the Boys a number 1.

Any obsessive Backstreet fan, please look away now--the following statement might make you cry. The BBs are different from the clutch of boy bands from both side of the Atlantic (from New Kids to Boyzone) because none of them are actually that good looking. AAARGH! Don't kill the messenger, this is meant nicely. It took four years for them to find worldwide success (better-lookers would have done it quicker, but better-lookers wouldn't be so talented), but from 1995-99 the five boys (AJ, Howie, Nick, Kevin and Brian) slogged their guts out, singing their harmonies and winning loyal support. This album, their second in Europe, came just as they were established here, and were getting started with their old material in their native USA. The opening three tracks, all killers, prove their pop mettle: the howlingly dirty "Backstreet's Back", "As Long As You Love Me" and "All I Have To Give". Wierdest track, and strangely satisfying with it, is their harmony-fest take on PM Dawn's "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss", a frat-boy serenade to all us eternal teens everywhere. --Charlie Porter

this is my favourite of all three albums with millennium as a close second. I love this one cos they all sound really young and it was the first tracks of theirs I heard way back in 1996 when I bought it. I also like it cos it features a lot more of Kevin's gorgeously deep voice!

My wife had been hinting from it's release to Christmas.
Luckily for me neither my children or my Mother-in-Law could find the album in the shops.
Enter Amazon, bought it the week before Christmas had it delivered 2 days later, nice surprise on Christmas morning.
Not my music scene, but Wife and Daughters are more than happy......

Greatest Hits Chapter One carves an unusual career path for those wholesome Backstreet Boys. Although all five members are from the USA, they had their first hit singles, "We've Got It Goin On" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart", in Europe. The story unfolds further as their singles marched with regularity into various Top Tens around the world at the end of the 1990s--as they "broke through" and won a string of prestigious awards. Chapter One begins with the somewhat childlike "We've Got It Goin On" and continues through all the greats such as "Larger Than Life", "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" and the new song "Drowning". --Ulf Behlen

Absolutely loved this album. There isn't one track on there I don't like - that makes a change.
