Their remake of "Killing Me Softly" was the hit, but that's only the beginning of the story. A hip-hop trio whose talents reach out into the world of the pop song (Wyclef Jean is a fine guitar player, and Lauryn Hill's a heck of a singer), the Fugees are also all distinctive, inventive rappers--you find yourself waiting for each of them to take the next verse in turn. The beats are the familiar crossed-armed boom-bip, but the group's understated grooves and subtle effects lie low in the mix. Aside from two kicky covers of classics (the other is Marley's "No Woman, No Cry"), The Score's focus is on the stars' rhyming with the free-form grace of performance poets and showing that they have thought deeply about the issues they raise. --Douglas Wolk

Without a doubt, the best album ever made in this reviewers humble opinion.

albums were i am comfortable letting the entire album play straight through from start to end come round very rarely, if at all!! but this is a classic, from the opening intro the the final fu-gee-la version!!

beats and vocals are on point through-out, laureyn hill's voice is sublime and lyrically, very few can compare to this offering from the Fugees!

this was a rare occasion where three people came together at the peak of their powers, and produced a classic album that will be listened to for years to come. i for one will still be nodding my geriatric head to family business, mask and laureyn's amazing Killing Me Softly!

Always beeing a fan of Lauren Hill and The Fugees afraid I may be biased with this one. Think we all enjoyed listening to their tracks in the 90's. Sometimes its nice to relive that time and remember what we was all doing at that time. Play these and you will see what I mean.

It didn't come as any surprise to those who'd heard the Fugees' first album that the trio should've finally shot to world-wide fame on the back of Lauryn Hill's inspired cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly" (from The Score). For their debut album, Blunted On Reality, is a microcosm of the previous 25 years of black music: from the dancehall rhythms of Jamaica, through the early 70s funk of Sly Stone and George Clinton, to the angry hip hop beats of America in the 1990s. On tracks like the biting "Nappy Heads" and "Recharge", Pras, Wyclef Jean and Hill proved that you didn't have to live up to some stereotype of gangsta rap to create music which is as powerful, chilling and relevant as any around. The debut album of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras, on its release, proved to us all what a hit the band were going to be once they had taken off. Combining classic Jamaican dancehall music with incredible rap , Blunted on Reality is well worth buying. I personally enjoyed the album because of its huge variety of Fugee classics and, of course, the stunning vocals of the great Lauryn Hill. In my opinion, Blunted od Reality is the greatest thing to come out of the Carribean since Bob Marley!
