Kasabian arrived with a bang and a half early this century, brandishing a slew of ever more dynamite singles and a rigorously assembled debut album that straddled dancefloors and festival fields with monumental ease and a glint in its bloodshot eyes. It was all very post-Xtrmntr, whilst avoiding much of the seriousness that could have entailed. Whether anyone expected them to chase Oasis’ coat-tails with such keenness is by the by now; they have since been ordained as an anthemic rock colossus of the UK rock scene. That has almost certainly gone to their heads and as years and albums pass they move further away from their original chemical reaction and into attempting to elbow their way onto the table of some of the greats--early Pink Floyd (the well meaning, but slightly aimless "Swarfiga"), The Kinks (the blatant "Thick As Thieves", though it doesn’t take much to imagine Noel Gallgher bashing it out either) and The Rolling Stones ("Happiness", see also Primal Scream). West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum finds them in an exploratory mood even if it struggles to lift off like either their own early material or the greats they aspire to emulate. Still, "Fast Fuse"...
Average rating of 5/5 There is HOPE for modern MUSIC, 2010-07-22
As a 41 year old I would like to think i'm quite open to what I listen to, whether it be; Reggae, Pop, Rock, Soul, Dance, Dubstep the list of genre's is endless..... lol. But over the last ten years or so, i've been quite disappointed in the decline of much of today's modern music. Why? well! most of today's music has lost something, can't exactly put my finger on it, it could be because it's lost it's soul, it's irony, it's power to provoke whatever it is I find myself drifting to the classics, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix etc, etc... The last group that really spoke to me was Radiohead which had passion, intrigue, soul and most of all it was music that you couldn't ignore. GOOD MUSIC to me, whatever genre it is, is suppose to move you, either emotionally, physically, or intellectually.
This ALBUM is one of those albums, I can happily say. If you are after an album which makes your feet tap, brain think, heartpound and most of all put a smile on your face, BUY THIS MAJESTIC ROCK ALBUM. THANKS BOYS.

While it's true that the self-titled debut from Kasabian doesn't sound particularly original, that's hardly the point. They can be forgiven because they do it so well. Their influences are obvious throughout Kasabian: "Processed Beats" is the Stone Roses song that never was, while "Reason is Treason" could have driven straight off of Primal Scream's Vanishing Point. Self-professed fans of the afore-mentioned bands, as well as DJ Shadow and Neu!, Kasabian are clearly not afraid of a little electronic knob-twiddling. The result is an album that harkens back to the baggy days of the late 1980s and early 90s, seamlessly switching between bass-heavy anthems ("Club Foot") and blissed-out tracks ("I.D."). And if they occasionally sound a bit like EMF, well, that's no bad thing--it's just proof that they know a thing or two about writing a catchy tune. Kasabian are by no means the first band to merge indie rock with dance floor beats, but they are easily one of the best. --Robert Burrow

Average rating of 3/5 Empire DVD, 2006-08-23
WARNING: This may be a DVD but it does not contain the video for the song 'Empire'. I hoped that it might, but alas.....
It does however have a very good b-side track 'Ketang' and a brief behind the scenes making of the forthcoming album. The latter particularly good because you get to hear and watch the band perform some songs from their forthcoming album.
If you are a fan this is a worthy addition to your collection.

Average rating of 5/5 Great single, better B-sides, 2005-10-21
I'm not usually keen on buying CD singles, but I have been following Kasabian for most of their career and I know that they're incredibly good both live and acoustic.

Cutt Off is a good single, although this version is slightly different to the album version, lacking the synth ending, cutting the song short. Lyrically, it seems to make little sense, but it is the chanting chorus and seemingly non sensical lyrics that make the song so likeable.

The acoustic version of 'Processed Beats' is incredible and probably even better than the original recorded version. Complete with bongo drums and Tom Meighan's distinctive voice, it shows that even the band's more dance-influenced tracks can suit the acoustic treatment.

An acoustic cover of The Prodigy's 'Out of Space' seems like a very strange choice, but considering the band cite dance/rave music as one of their main influences, it isn't that surprising.

The song works much better than you would imagine. The frantic bongo drumming and Sergio Pizzorno's rapid singing of the chorus is both enjoyable and amusing. Indeed, Tom's laughing at the end of the song illustrates that they actually had fun recording the song.

People deride Kasabian for being derivative, which I find slightly unfair. Whilst their influences are clear, their fusion of indie/rock/dance/electronic is unquestionably original and is pulled off with incredible flair. Highly recommended.

Average rating of 5/5 FUTURE FACING ROCK & ROLL!!, 2004-09-10
It's not for me to say that this is the greatest & most important album for a long, long time. I don't need to. You only need to syringe your ears clean of the viscous muck that British 'guitar' music has inflicted on us in recent years. Simply play loud, play long & play again and everything should be okay. Okay!
Taking off where Primal Scream's 'Vanishing Point' finished this record is a classic, if not a cultural milestone. It's the point at which The Stone Roses' groove meets The Scream's cyberpunk-dub-psychedelia then hooks into the Beta Band's looping electrofolk finally shaking a little krautrock on top. All this wrapped in the effortless gang cool manifesto of early Oasis and you have THE band for the decade.
Only problem is. Whenever a band becomes 'THE band' they tend to fall from grace in a major way, so do me a favour. Buy this album & love it to death but er .......... don't tell your mates. Let's keep it a secret huh!

Average rating of 5/5 If you love Kasabian..., 2009-11-30
The CD I received wasn't what I expected... It is actually even better! Originally I purchased the common version of this CD (13 tracks), I was a little upset as I'd got used to hearing a fifteen track version so I gave it to an ex girlfriend in disgust... Finally I decided to bite the bullet and buy the enhanced version... I got the CD today and was overjoyed to discover it had 19 tracks, It's got a DVD also containing a 2004 Tour Doc & Club Foot live at Brixton Academy. I purchased off a seller not Amazon so I'm not sure if this version is the Ultimate Version (Japanese Import), It's not clear? I hope it is so you can know my joy.
