One listen to her debut album Alright, Still, dispels any doubts about young Ms Allen’s star quality. Possessed of a feisty wit and taste for urban storytelling that should see her compared to Mike "The Streets" Skinner, these eleven tracks of sunshine-friendly reggae pop cover topics including frustrating potential closing-time suitors ("Knock ‘Em Out"), being happy when your ex is having a bad time ("Smile"), and having a little brother who likes a bit of a smoke--and not just of the tobacco variety ("Alfie"). Wisely, however, Allen doesn’t let the grittiness of the subject matter tarnish the golden pop suss of the songs, a suite of gleaming productions by names including Mark Ronson and Gwen Stefani collaborator Greg Kurstin that take inspiration from at the lighter end of reggae and vintage rocksteady. It’s always going to be difficult to assess a character like chav-pop mad-mouth Lily Allen, seeing as absolutely everyone has an opinion on her, regardless of whether they know who she is or how they arrived at it. Where does the kicking tabloid caricature end and the artiste begin? For these reasons alone you should be grateful for It’s Not You, It’s Me, as it finally crystallises all the chaos of the last couple of years into a succinct, sparkling and occasionally brilliant album. Of course it isn’t as sweet as her debut, Alright, Still (which did have a candyfloss side and bright eyes in spite of its wordy bravado), but it is just as cheeky if you allow for the glitter, sheen and high production values that are working to elevate her to Proper Pop Star status. This is not an album that sounds like it came from lying on her bed on a Sunday morning putting her world to rights from the night before, but listen to the eloquent javelin-sharp sarcasm of “The Fear”, touching confessions of budding love on “Who’d Have Known”, or revelling in the ordinariness of a relationship on “Chinese” and you recognise the talent that got everyone excited abou...

I am the first fan worldwide to own and listen to Lily Allen's 'It's Not Me, It's You, five weeks before it's release date (due to a glitch with a music download store). This is a brilliant album. It's easy to see how much Lily has grown since her debut album Alright, Still which was released in 2006. Much alike that album, Lily's songs reflect many issues confronting today's society, mixed with great melodies, Lily's captivating voice with lyrics that will cause you to double-take what you just heard. It also contains a few upbeat dance type tracks. This is definitely an album for everyone to buy and is sure to be a huge hit in 2009!

Jeez. I could guess what this was going to be like. She has a voice that is contrived and the lyrics are like the stuff Madness rejected. Lots of naughty words thrown in too just to show she's got cred. Tunes are cod-reggae. Avoid like the plague. This has the staying power of a kipper in a hammock.
