'Some Classics, Some Fillers', 2007-03-24 At their best, the Wilson brothers are capable of coming up with songs of outstanding (if you'll excuse the pun) quality. The problem with this however is that on every album they made the classics simply outshine the rest. This album is no exception to that rule and there are three Gap Band classics on show here. The First of those is 'Yearning For Your Love' a simply magnificent, emotion drenched, summertime sounding soul ballad. One of the best tracks the band ever produced, if you don't own it already you should buy this cd for it alone. The second is the incredibly funky 'Burn Rubber On Me' which is a classic dancer and used to make me sweat buckets on the dancefloor! The last classic on this album is less well known. 'Nothin' Comes To Sleepers' was actually the b side to 'Burn Rubber' in the U.K but it deserved a much better fate. Lyrically superb, it's a dead slow and reflective song and is excellently sung by Charlie Wilson. As for the rest? Well 'When I look In Your Eyes' is a pleasing enough mid tempo song but sounds a bit dated (did even at the time) and 'Humpin' and 'Gash Gash Gash' are in the same vein as 'Ooops' but less essential. The remaining tracks are nothing to write home about and won't hold you attention for long. So, a typical Gap Band album then, frustrating but brilliant in places..'my heart is yearning for your lovvvveee' (singing).

'Perhaps The Last Great Gap Band Album', 2008-02-21 After the patchy 'Gap Band 8' album and the disappointing 'Straight To The Heart' set, by the time 'Round Trip' was released the group were under pressure to deliver. By deciding to self produce, only co-write the songs and adapt their trademark sound to incorporate elements of a 'swing beat style' they did so in spectacular style with the lead track here 'All Of My Love' a No1 US R&B hit. Follow up 'Addicted To Your Love' sounds a lot like Bobby Brown's 'My Perogative' but is still a 'typical Gap Band' dancer (U.S R&B no 8). The production sound of this record is much more lightweight than before and shows how much the group were trying to embrace the times. 'Addicted To Your Love' and final track 'Jam' also feature guest rappers. While the ballads on this record are not in the same league as earlier Gap classics like 'Yearning For Your Love' or 'No Hiding Place', third and final single 'We Can Make It Alright' (U.S R&B No 18) and 'Wednesday Lover' are pleasant enough. Best track for me on this record though is the typical, simplistic dancer 'It's Our Duty'. Like so many of the groups classic records it has a powerful smacking beat and is just so damned catchy! HA HA 'I'm Dreaming' and 'Antidote (To Love)' have a rock edge to them and may not therefore be to everyones taste but both tracks are good (if you like that sort of thing) and at least provide variety. Finally, for those that only have the vinyl version of this album 'Let's Talk About Love' is a cd only bonus track ( a good album song but not worth buying this for alone). So, all in all, 'Round Trip' is a great Gap Band album but it's not their best (Gap Band 2).

'Some Gappers And Some Finger Snappers', 2007-03-20 Firstly can I clear up a few type o's to do with the description of this product here... These recordings have nothing whatsoever to do with the years stated in the title description. These are NOT recordings from 1969 -1976 at all they date from 1979 at the earliest and are the original versions of the bands best known tracks. Secondly the track described as 'Humpin Around' is in fact the groups hit single 'Humpin' from 1980 and NOT a 'new track' exclusive to this collection. Those discrepancies addressed, this compilation does focus on the earlier years of the bands history (hence no 'Big Fun'). If you like great soul, you need to own 'Yearning For Your Love' an absolute killer track from 1980 and, of the other tracks you may not be familiar with, 'Steppin' Out' is a frisky dancer with a tight melody that'll get you dancing. So then, a great compilation but not as described here!
