Alan Bennett - Perfect, 2010-06-15 Alan Bennett is so good reading "The house at Pooh Corner" stories that I cannot imagine anyone else supplying such a beautiful rendering. His characterisation of Pooh, Piglet, Eyore, etc. . . is masterful and entertaining. My children and grandchildren have heard them and love the stories too. "The house at Pooh Corner" and also "Winnie the Pooh" are perfect. They are so good that my wife and I still listen to them on car journeys and occasionally at home. Alan Bennett makes the characters come alive. I've not heard "A party for Pooh" but if Alan Bennett is reading the stories then I'm sure I can guarantee enjoyment.

Original Soundtrack
For those who loved Randy Newman's score to the first Toy Story (but maybe not the singer-songwriter's gruff voice), check out Toy Story 2. Here, we get a handful of memorable vocal numbers: Sarah McLachlan sings the breathy "When She Loved Me," Riders in the Sky give their retro-swing treatment to "Woody's Roundup," and Robert Goulet croons Toy Story's anthem "You've Got a Friend in Me." The soundtrack's orchestrations are pure Newman--sometimes sweeping, sometimes whimsical, and always fitting for this fantasy story of toys coming to life. Of course, the "You've Got a Friend in Me" theme keeps popping up in the instrumentals, as do Western-themed melodies. Nothing monumental here, but a fun soundtrack nonetheless. --Jason Verlinde

Original Soundtrack
Slightly confused, 2009-11-09 while i love the original lion king, the soundtrack for the second film is infinitely more memorable. if you're a fan of the film this is a must have.
one minor issue though, "my lullaby" is in the wrong place in the sequence of songs. not sure why disney decided to do that.

High School Musical
Fans of High School Musical can breathe easy: Based on this soundtrack, the sequel is just as good, and perhaps even better. Though its trailer asked "Are you ready for the start of something new?" HSM2 isn't turning the franchise into The Wire, and really is more of the same--which is, of course, totally fine by us. One of the most energetic tracks is Chad and Ryan's musical/baseball number "I Don't Dance," propelled by a cool big-band swing motif (fans of director Kenny Ortega's choreographic work for Xanadu will be reminded of that movie's mash-up of disco and swing in the "Dancin'" number). Once again Troy and Gabriella get the ballads, but "You Are the Music in Me" is a fine one and doesn't get bogged down in syrup. It also gets reprised by Troy and Sharpay in a rockier and arguably better version. This is typical of the fact that, overall, the bouncier tracks fare best: "All for One" (with its handclaps and surfy guitar licks), the s! ingle "What Time Is It" (the time of our lives, of course!), "Work This Out" (complete with percussive, well, workout). Of course everybody's favorite brother-sister team, Ryan and Sharpay, gets a couple of great veh...
High School Musical 2, 2009-02-20 As usual High School Musical is just fantastic. My two young children plus myself think HSM is brilliant, so it's great to have the music to play in the car.

Like his fellow countryman John Williams, Australian-born guitarist Craig Ogden is no slouch when it comes to performing new repertoire. So, for an album of "meditative" music that could have been an excuse simply to dust-off some old classical guitar warhorses, Ogden fearlessly throws in four premiere recordings of contemporary pieces to broaden the disc's appeal. Takashi Yoshimatsu's Wind Color Vector uses the guitar to evoke the elemental nature of the wind (it's one part of a three-movement work inspired by wind, water and sky) with extensive use of harmonics; while his Two Little Pieces are musical depictions of "a lonely fish" (lots of swirling right hand tremelo) and "a white view"(!). Eduardo Sainz de la Maza's Platero y yo imparts a gentle jazz sensibility to a Spanish subject; while the last of William Lovelady's Incantations is subtitled "Hommage to Stanley Myers", which links neatly to Myers's most famous composition, his Cavatina (here played in John Williams's classic solo guitar arrangement for the film The Deer Hunter). Throughout, Ogden's playing is a constant source of pleasure. Whether in evergreens like Cavatina a...

We would give this film 6 stars if we could!, 2010-01-31 We have always been loyal to 'The Slipper and the Rose', the Gemma Craven/Richard Chamberlain musical Cinderella film and didn't expect to love this film as much as we did.
We have watched several Cinderella films recently, including the earlier Rodgers & Hammerstein version and the wonderful 'The Glass Slipper', with Leslie Caron, but this film has actually ended up being our favourite.
Brandy is a very endearing heroine with a beautiful singing voice and the prince is really charming. The film is just a glorious, richly coloured spectacle, heartwarming and beautiful to look at and very funny in places.
It was great to see a mixed race royal family and Bernadette Peters was truly remarkable as the step mother and gets the best costumes..!

Wonderful, 2010-05-14 4yo, 7yo and forty something parents loved this. The voices, the music, the stories are all fantsastic. Just the thing for abb long car journey or even a wet afternoon at home!
Only one complaint -- why do the BBC do such poor track listings and put them where you can't see them wthout taking the paper out of the CD case?

Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra
Jolly music, 2010-02-12 Providing you don't mind your classical music being dumbed down this is a great cd. It's a very jolly cd that we enjoy having as background music whilst playing with toys or as music to dance along to and it will be great to have in the car on my next 5 hour trip up to northumberland with my 5 month old boy. This is my 2nd baby einstein cd, and i'll be getting more....
