Reinhardt Django
the best late Django CD on the market today!, 2002-03-14 This double CD set features recordings from 1947 and 1953. especially the recordings from 1953, the year of his untimely death, is haunting. There are 8 tunes from 1953 featuring Django with a new generation of young french Jazz musicians. You can clearly hear that Django is influenced by Be-Bop at this stage. The Jewel in the crown is "Nuages". His best version ever! Django died two months later.

Django Reinhardt
Paris and London 1937-1948 is every bit as essential and fascinating for lovers of jazz guitar as JSP's first inexpensive Django box, Django Reinhardt Vol.1. Between 1937 and 1948, the world's best-known gypsy guitarist was leading some of the hottest jazz groups in Europe, with some of the most innovative arrangements imaginable. The story behind these sessions is almost as memorable as the material--somehow Reinhardt, despite being a gypsy, prospered through Nazi-occupied France while his peers either fled or perished. Due to the war, the classic line-up of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France evolved and eventually splintered into two groups--one with Stephane Grappelli on violin, another replacing him with the clarinettist Hubert Rostaing. But regardless of Reinhardt's accompaniment, the music-making heard here is nothing short of astounding. Whether swinging through standards such as "All of Me", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" or performing some of his classic originals (such as "Nuages" and "Swing 42"), whether alone ("Improvisations" and "Tea for Two") or backed by more than a dozen friends ("Festival Swing"), this is some of Re...
Wonderful bargain, 2001-08-22 This second box set of Django Reinhardt from JSP is just as good as the first. Together they provide a comprehensive collection of the best of Django's recordings in excellent transfers at an unbelievably low price. Strongly recommended.

Django Reinhardt
Probably the best jazz guitarist ever!, 2004-05-25 Django Reinhardt should probably never have been able to play the guitar as an adult. He lost the use of two fingers in a fire when he was young, and as a result had to alter his playing style so that the used only two fingers on his left hand. Instead of finding this a disability, he used it to develop a style that is different from most other guitarists of the period. This CD covers his earliest works, dealing mostly with his 'Hot Club of France' days. There are plenty of standout tracks here, along with the skills of Stephane Grappelli, both of whom benefitted greatly from the collaboration. Favourites for me are 'Tiger Rag', 'Djangology', 'Sweet Georgia Brown' and 'Swing Guitars'. Of course, everyone is going to have their favourites, and these are just mine at the moment, but next time I will probably pick out different numbers. This box set really is a bargain, and I would recommend it to anyone who has ever had an interest in jazz guitar, but it will also appeal to anyone that loves good music.

Quintet Of The Hot Club Of France
AN INCOMPLETE SOUVENIR OF THE LONDON SESSIONS, 2009-11-07 The Quintette (not Quintet) of the Hot Club of France, or QHCF, recorded a total of 15 sides for Decca in London in January and August 1938 and August 1939, and guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelly recorded eight duets in February and September 1938. They were separated by the onset of war and but for a brief reunion in 1946 that was the end of their professional association.
This compilation (which has been in the catalogue for 20 years) contains all of the QHCF's London recordings but for "The Flat Foot Floogie" (which was coupled with "The Lambeth Walk") and "Why Shouldn't I Care?" (which was issued only in Argentina). As to the duets, three have been omitted, but two of the 1946 titles are included.
I mention that detail because by today's standards 20 tracks with a running time of just under 57 minutes is not full measure. This is wonderful timeless jazz which has never been surpassed, but I would like to see it remastered to give us the 1938/39 London sessions in full, preferably in chronological order.

Django Reinhardt
The Master of guitar-based Jazz, 2005-12-20 Django Reinhardt is without a doubt the finest Jazz guitarist ever to have lived. Consequently, the jazz he made in the smokey clubs of 1940's Paris, with his quartet, is amazing. Clarinet, Violin, Drums, and Guitar build fantastic layers and tempos that are unparalleled by any jazz group/artist to attempt it. Buy any Django Reinhardt CD and love it.
