 Nice and hot jazz from 1951, 2009-08-24
This lovely live session from Milwaukee (in 1951) gathers a hot group with a mighty front line of Bobby Hackett, Vic Dickenson and Gene Sedric (a veteran clarinet player who played extensively with Fats Waller), with slightly less impressive rhythm section (Nat Ray-p, Irv Mannning-b, Johnny Vine-dm). The jazz is at the same time hot and subtle, tradition-oriented (in spite of some Bix Beiderbecke nods, the word "dixieland" might apply) and, although the recording technology (and/or its usage) don't seem very professional, the music shines through.
This IS a jazz gem, get it if you're a Hackett, Dickenson or trad jazz fan...

This album (although not too long - some 33 minutes) will satisfy a true swing lover because Roy Little Jazz Eldridge is at the top of his game... Young, strong and swinging like mad!
Hi-fidelity freaks, however, will probably not like this CD; it seems to have been remastered from acetates in various stages of deterioration and the last few tracks are really not in the best possible condition. But, if you have some experience in 20s and 30s music (and don't mind the audio technology of the era), you'll hear plenty of fire from this band; featuring also Zutty Singleton on drums, as well as Scoops Carey and Roy's brother Joe...
