Average rating of 5/5 What an album!!, 2010-04-10
This is one incredible recording, capturing an amazingly talented musician who's ability, and versatility, seem to know no end. After buying the DVD, I was so pleased to be able to get a copy of this performance on CD. I value Live recordings very highly, because that's where you hear what someone can really do. And this CD brings out John Mayer at his best. Enjoy!!!

Unplugged was the last collection recorded by Nirvana before the untimely death of Kurt Cobain and it caught many by surprise. As a testament to the group's live dynamic in a acoustic setting, it's a fantastic document that emphasises the nuances of one of the greatest bands of recent times. Cobain singing "I swear I don't have a gun, I don't have a gun" with clenched teeth instead of a loud howl is a revelation as is the subtle guitar playing on the haunting "About a Girl", from their earliest LP. Highlights include covers of three Meat Puppets tracks (featuring special guests Curt and Kris Kirkwood of that influential "college rock" band), the weepy cello on the Vaselines' "Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam" and their cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World". --Lorry Fleming

Although this quote comes from a 1949 film starring Humphrey Bogart,it could so easily have been written for Kurt Cobain... and this excellent album will in future serve as a testament to Cobain's talent far more than the bombast of the studio albums.

I am not a fan of Nirvana, preferring tunes to noise: despite their undoubted talent and passion, I have always found their studio albums extremely difficult to listen to because of the lack of any light and shade. So I was very doubtful about this purchase.

However, in this stripped down version, the emotional honesty and sheer songwriting quality simply shine through. From the first track to the last, these recordings are riveting and demand attention.

A revelation for any Nirvana doubters who refuse to believe the hype.

Average rating of 5/5 The best introduction to Neil Young. Acoustic beauty., 2009-05-14
Quite possibly the best album Neil Young has ever released. The acoustic, stripped back arrangements really suit the selection of songs and highten their emotional impact. An excellent starting point for those who want to get to know Neil's music. Certainly, it was the first album I bought by Neil and I immediately wanted to hear more of his work. A simply stunning record that I still enjoy listening to years after first hearing it.

Clapton caught the "unplugged" trend just at the right time, when the public was hungry to hear how well rock stars and their material could hold up when stripped of elaborate production values. Clapton himself seemed baffled by the phenomenon, especially when picking up the armload of Grammys Unplugged earned him, including Record and Song of the Year for "Tears in Heaven", the heart-rending elegy to his young son, Conor. That song and a reworked version of "Layla" got most of the attention, but the rest of the album has fine versions of acoustic blues numbers such as "Malted Milk", "Rollin' & Tumblin' and "Before You Accuse Me" that make it worth investigating further. --Daniel Durchholz

Excellent album and whats more it sounds excellent on a good system which sadly cannot be said for a lot of his work.

I do not think you will be dissapointed on any front.

Average rating of 4/5 Doors Wide Open, 2009-07-22
This is a nicely presented 3 disc set of the 2 shows The Doors played in one evening at Boston. We're told in the accompanying booklet that Jim was drunk when he turned up for the gig, and on listening to the first show (disc 1) this soon becomes apparent. Yet the band are on such good form here that Jim's excesses in no way detract from the enjoyment of the concert, and for me it only adds to the atmosphere of what must have been a great night. By the second show Jim seems to have sobered some and they are seriously rocking (disc 2 is particularly good), and unlike some of the other 1970 shows we don't have to suffer Ray's lead vocals, so the concert stays solid throughout. This is perhaps my favourite of the available Bright Midnight concerts. An essential purchase for the serious Doors fan.

Average rating of 5/5 The Very Best!, 2010-02-27
I was working on a summer camp in about 1987 when my brother sent me a bootleg of this on cassette, saying he'd not stopped listening to it since he'd bought it. I wan't really a fan of the band at the time (even though a couple of their singles had got my attention), but this changed my opinion. I spent the next few weeks with my Sony Walkman on pretty much all the time that I wasn't working.

At the time, U2 was big in the UK, and believed by many people to be superior to Simple Minds, but this album, above all others, shows otherwise. To be honest, there is only one downside to this album, it is that it makes their studio output seem somewhat lacking.

Quite simply, the energy and musicianship on this album is without equal, even now 20+ years on. In my opinion, it is the best live album ever produced - by any band!

I have a lot of music, but this is the one I always come back to.

Have no doubts about buying this - you will not be disappointed! (and it costs peanuts too!).

Enjoy it!
