La Roux
With commercially successful singles "Quicksand" and "In For The Kill" (latterly remixed by dubstep luminary Skream), red-headed, pale-skinned Brixton girl Elly Jackson and her "invisible" co-producer Ben Langmaid irrevocably established their love of 80s pop. This debut album continues the duo’s foray into euphoric retro-dance, nodding non-ironically to the likes of The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17 and The Human League while remaining impressively contemporary. Opening with a string of sassy tunes--the buzzing "Tigerlily", the synth-heavy "Quicksand" and the slick and fiery "Bulletproof"--it’s apparent that La Roux have colour, class and confidence in spades. The album tapers off a little during the second half--failed experiments like "Cover My Eyes" which features the London Community Gospel Choir don't help--but it still boasts way more in the shape of dynamic killers than sappy fillers. First class. --Danny McKenna
SUE'S VIEW, 2010-03-09 I BOUGHT THE ALBUM AS A PRESENT FOR MY HUSBAND. WE HEARD HER DO A RADIO PROGRAMME WITH HEAVEN 17 AND THOUGHT SHE WAS REALLY GOOD. WE HAD ONLY HEARD HER RELEASED SINGLES ON THE RADIO BEFORE THEN. THE ALBUM IS MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. I PUT IT ON MY IPOD AND LISTEN TO IT ALL THE TIME; MY HUSBAND PLAYS THE ALBUM IN THE CAR ON HIS WAY TO AND FROM WORK. THE SONGS ARE GREAT AND REALLY SEEM TO GET BETTER THE MORE YOU LISTEN TO THEM. SHE IS A REAL TALENT. IF YOU ARE NOT YET A FAN, DEFINATELY WORTH TAKING A CHANCE ON.

Take That
It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Ja...
Alternative rock fan 'fesses - Take That are great!!, 2010-02-18 One of the universally accepted truths among 'serious' music fans is that all boy bands make one great single amongst a wealth of dross, and Take That's was 'Back For Good'.
The Take That comeback blows that idea out of the water. Ok, they're not boys any more but grownups, but even so, I wasn't expecting much from this record; while admitting 'Patience' was a good song and 'Shine' was infernally catchy, I had to undergo persuasion by my wife to let a Take That album sit on my shelves amidst the Radiohead, Manics and XTC.
Shock 1 - 'Reach Out', the opener, is exceptionally melodic and memorable. Then, after 'Patience', another strong and memorable song. Then another, and another... by the time Wooden Boat comes along I was thinking the record has to have a duff track and this will be it but no, it's the highlight of a perfect album of mature pop music, a simple folkish song sung by either Howard or Jason, the ones in the group I don't remember actually doing anything vocally.
Although the songs are almost all collaborative, with TT sharing writing credits with a variety of composers (such as Eg White on the seemingly autobiographical 'Mancunian Way') they are definably Take That, from the immaculate Gary Barlow piano-driven pop ballads to the quirkier, Oasis / Beatles influenced tracks sung by Mark Owen.
We've been listening to virtually nothing but this album for the past month - our 11 month old son loves it and he gets his way - and I can honestly say I haven't tired of one second of it.
Brilliant record.

Lady Gaga
My daughter is already playing this to death..., 2010-03-03 My daughter is Lady Gaga mad so this was a fantastic birthday present for her! She was particularly pleased (as was I) that it has all the really famous songs on, making it very good value for money. The other tracks seem to have gone done just as well, so all in all I'd say it was a great buy for any Lady Gaga fans.

Black Eyed Peas
As Excellent to be Expected, 2010-03-03 Really enjoyed this CD and was glad I purchased it. The whole CD from start to end tells a story and each track is mixed well into each other so that it's more like a concert. The music is just as I would expect from the Black Eyed Peas: professional, well-mixed, and with a good variety across the album. Track 6 'Alive' and Track 2 'Rock That Body' although very different songs are probably my favourite! If you love Black Eyed Peas's song 'I Gotta Feeling' which is why I bought the CD - then you will love this and not be disappointed :)

Review of Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, 2009-06-28 This is a brilliant film. The music is very good indeed, yet you almost don't notice it when watching as the film is so absorbing. It was only on watching the film again in the cinema that I realised how good the music is. The music is exciting and addictive and listening to it recreates the scenes and story of the film. I have played this cd several times and don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
