Way beyond anything I expected, 2009-12-26 I bought this for my partner as we're both JT fans and I wasn't expecting a great deal. I thought that it's just another Christmas record but James's great voice will maybe save it. How wrong can a person be, it's just superb !. The CD was mainly produced and arranged by Dave Grusin and the arrangements are just fantastic. So many top-rank musicians that it's difficult to name them all but the rhythm section of Jimmy Johnson on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, is unbeatable. Great support also from John Pizzarelli and Michael Landau on guitars. Dave Grusin also contributes consistently inventive piano playing. I would say that the arrangements transform each track and even add life to old chestnuts like 'Go Tell it on the Mountain'. James's sense of humour is always there too.
My personal favourites are Santa Claus is coming to Town, Jingle Bells and Some Children See Him. I'm not remotely religious, in fact quite the opposite but this is simply great music. Whoever envisaged doing Jingle Bells as a funky blues complete with slide guitar and a marvellous guitar solo, deserves a medal. It's just brilliant and I just broke down in laughter as it progressed.
James's voice is consistently excellent and is surprisingly adaptable on these mainly jazzy interpretations. We played this CD non-stop for all of Christmas day and I would unreservedly recommend it.

This lavish holiday set has been called the greatest rock & roll Christmas album of all time. That's an opinion that's tough to argue with when you find yourself immersed in the massive sounds painstakingly crafted by legendary producer Phil Spector. His "wall-of-sound" technique is perfectly suited to the music of the season, as he proves with layer upon layer of piano, sleigh bells, buoyant percussion, and, of course, those legendary Spector sound harmonies. The Crystals turn their sassy interplay into sheer magic on "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town", The Ronettes stroll sweetly through numbers like "Sleigh Ride", while Darlene Love delivers areal knockout punch with her yearning version of "Christmas (Baby, PleaseCome Home)". Sure to become the soundtrack for your holidays. --DavidSprague

Magnificent, 2009-12-21 Tebaldi was the finest singer since the end of world war two. Forget about your Fremi's, Callas and the rest. The purity of her voice makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand out. I have listened to this opera many times and she still brings tears to my eyes when listen. Coupled with the conductor Tullio Serrafin and Bergonza it is a must have double CD which must be played again and again. It is like a fine wine it improves with age and needs to be savoured over and over again. Its times like this I wish I was published critic so that I could extoll the virtues of this brilliant recording.

Handel With Care, 2010-04-12 He could coin a tune, couldn't he, old George Frideric. Though my parishioners still wonder that he chose to premiere the work in Dublin and not Galway...

When he was growing up, Andrea Bocelli recalls finding inspiration in a favourite recording of sacred music performed by tenor legend Franco Corelli. Bocelli--who in the meantime has come to inspire millions of fiercely loyal fans himself--returns to the genre as the guiding theme of Sacred Arias, the release of which coincides with the first major English-language biography of the singer. These performances are filled with the singer's phenomenally well-known vocal signature: his flair for long, sweetly floating high notes and the gentle sense of cadence he brings to a melody. It's a mistake to compartmentalise Bocelli into a singer of "operatic" versus "popular" styles: in truth his approach is at heart the same. Lack of colour and control in his phrasing remains a drawback, but the emotional empathy Bocelli evokes is never in doubt. The arias collected here sample some of the most famous devotional pieces: Schubert's "Ave Maria" and Mozart's transporting "Ave Verum," as well as an arrangement of "Silent Night" in which Bocelli tries out his English. There's also a decidedly odd choice of bedfellows for a programme of "sacred" music, such as a song from Wagner's Wesend...
excellent quality and service, 2009-02-01 having ordered this in plenty of time for Christmas, it arrived only days later and the quality of both the recording and the service was second to none. keep up the supreme work Amazon. Thanks

Sweet Bells, 2010-01-26 Kate Rusby sings some well known and less well known carols to provide a superb listening experience. Her rendition of "Sweet Bells", which is a version of "While Shepherds Watched" is especially worth listening to.

Marian Rhodes, 2010-01-19 Beautiful album. My favourite track being "Scars". Just listen to the lyrics, they are what we all have. You cannot go through life without your own scars, very touching. I also loved "Homward bound" by Simon Garfunkel originally, but Ronan does it his way and it's great.
