Memories, 2009-08-24 This really brought back memories of the 70`s, slightly dissapointed with a couple of tracks but overall, well worth buying if you either like or were around during this era
A PERFECT BEVERAGE, 2003-07-06 This is a wonderful collection. Errol Brown's voice is so smooth and sexy. The rumbling basslines, the sublime strings, A perfect combination. One of the late Mickey Most's discoveries and his most successful. The hits keep coming. Every one a winner!
Makes you want to coat yourself in honey (& get someone to lick it off), 2008-01-20 What a fantastic record. Hot Chocolate made some absolutely marvellous records & this collection is testament to that fact.
The songs are smooth as silk. They can be a combination of very funky, sexy & saucy, bitter & sweet. The musicianship is fantastic,as is the production & if Errol's voice was a business, I reckon Ann Summers would be bankrupt.
You do forget with some bands how much quality they produced & Hot Chocolate are probably for many people, one of those bands. I thoroughly enjoy this record, its pure quality (& its a tip top party record too !)
A must own - no, really, it is !!
MELODIC POP & SOUL, 2003-05-21 The UK band Hot Chocolate were regular visitors to the UK Top Ten right through the 1970s. I Believe (In Love) from 1971 is an oh so gentle, wistful song with melodious organ lines and a male voices that caresses the soul, Emma from about 1974 is a passionate dirge that tells the tragic story of Emmaline and So You Win Again was their huge top 5 hit from 1978. My other favourites here include You Sexy Thing, Love Is Life, I'll Put You Together Again and their other massive hit, Every 1's A Winner. The lead singer's smooth warm voice wraps itself perfectly around the synth-based instrumentation and all of the songs are tuneful and memorable. Hot Chocolate were perhaps the UK's premier soul band in the seventies, consistently scoring hits, even during the disco era when they mastered the form in their song Disco Queen. If they weren't a British band, I would have expected them to be on the Stax label! Yes, this music is that good and Hot Chocolate's sound compares well with the best of Motown and Stax/Volt's romantic songs.
Do I Believe? Yes I Believe, 2009-04-26
Much overlooked band sadly only linked now with The Full Monty buy this album or at least borrow it from the library or a friend and then buy it. Great funk with a little soul and even disco.......which if you listen to the purists wasn't around for at least five years yet and was invented by the Bee Gees and Studio 54.
Best song Louie a simple straight out commentary on mixed race relationships in Britain in the early seventies.
Great music great memories
