Free and Fresh, 2010-04-08 Here is the opportunity, at a knock-down price, to obtain what is claimed to be the most popular jazz album of all time. By its 50th birthday last year (2009) the `Kind of Blue' album had received 4 platinum certificates signifying 4 million sales. It is understood that when the original recordings were made trumpeter Miles Davis gave band members only brief melody lines and scales on which to improvise, and it is further understood there were very few repeats necessary during recording. The lack of firm instructions and the willingness to accept consequences allowed the musicians to break away from chord-laden compositions and the results are impressively free and fresh making for wonderfully easy and relaxed listening. It is also claimed that `Kind of Blue' influenced not only other jazz musicians but also other genres from `rock' to `classical' - let it influence you - it's cheap enough!
jazz virgin, 2010-05-02 I didn't know I liked jazz.I ordered Kind of blue as it was so cheap. Now I can't stop playing that cool layed back sound.
audio cd, 2010-04-05 since the 3 cd's came together, I can't understand why I had to pay the postal expenses for each one
Pure jazz heaven., 2010-04-28 Where does one begin with a masterpiece like this? The biggest selling jazz album of all time? The one jazz album that every music fan owns? Well maybe, but I like the strory of middle class Miles trying to gain credibility by developing a Parker-esqu smack habit, then realising its affecting his music, goes home to his parents, and locks himself away in his bedroom for some self imposed cold turkey. He emerges clean, puts together a new sextet, goes into the studio with some ideas around modal jazz, and comes out with this. Genius. Pure jazz heaven.
Iconic Jazz, 2010-05-06 Being a jazz musician, this is a must have for me. An iconic album that stands the test of time featuring legendary musicians. You need this in your collection!
